AVCON were called by Wollongong Council to support manage a multi agency whale carcass and shark risk project. AVCON’s trained water rescue team deployed jet skis, marine equipment and engaged excavators and bins to manage the whale carcass from the water.
The key was to remove the whale from the water as soon as possible to remove the local threat caused by the many large sharks feeding on the whale.
We used our custom hazmat bund to support sliding the whale towards the bin without breaking up.
With a large media and public viewing contingent, the job was completed safely and well within the expected timeframes.
