Plastic and Polystyrene Pollution

Environmental damage caused by plastic waste is a significant issue. Plastic-wrapped silage bales, utilised for feeding livestock, jeopardise the health of waterways and create navigation hazards.

Lion Island, a nature reserve situated at the Hawkesbury River’s mouth, was among the areas most severely affected by floods. The island is home to various native species, including an endangered colony of little penguins.

In collaboration with the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) and AVCON crews, we took action to remove debris that could entrap wildlife or be ingested. The presence of polystyrene and plastic materials was pervasive.
