Petrol Pollution
On January 4th, 2019 at around 9am a bulk tanker carrying 36,000 litres of fuel caught fire while traveling along the M1 Princes Motorway west of Wollongong
Around 20 emergency crews converged to douse the flaming vehicle with foam, but battled to keep the blaze within containment lines, as repeated flare ups caused havoc and fuel spilled onto the roadway and into drains.
Nearby homes were evacuated, while the only occupant of the truck, a 44-year-old male driver escape unharmed.
AVCON were engaged to execute an extensive and complex clean up and salvage operation.
Hazmat crews remained on the scene to decant the remaining fuel from the vehicle and keep it from flowing into drains.
AVCON completed a 3-week remediation program of a nearby creek.
